simply floyd promo reel
simply floyd the story
Simply Floyd was formed purely by chance when a group of musicians got together to perform some Pink Floyd songs at a stag do. The evening went well; so well in fact that the group decided it was too good to leave there and so Simply Floyd was born. The decision was taken to perform a stripped down version of Pink Floyd's music to allow the band to bring this music to smaller venues which normally would be unable to host a full band with lights, lasers and special effects.
Since forming, Simply Floyd have garnered success and grown their reputation both at home and abroad; playing at festivals, concert venues, pubs and clubs. The band felt that the time was right to build further on their success and take their shows into theatres.
All of these very talented guys have been in many tribute bands over the years including other Pink Floyd tribute bands such as Breathe, Great Pig in the Sky and the UK Pink Floyd tribute show.
Their wide range of talent, including Andy's skill on the lap steel slide guitar; their years of experience and genuine love for the music of Pink Floyd, is clearly why these guys produce one of the most authentic tributes to the remarkable sound and music of Pink Floyd.
MEET The band
Martin: Bass guitar & Vocals.
Martin is the Roger Waters of the band and a consummate professional. He has been a musician and vocalist for over forty years and has played to audiences around the world.
Self taught but don't let that fool you, his ability to reproduce those classic Floyd vocals and basslines is second to none. Unlike Roger though, he doesn't take himself too seriously and likes to have the occasional laugh with the band and audiences alike creating the perfect atmosphere for a great show.
Andy: Guitars & Slide
Born in Rugby in Warwickshire, Andy first picked up a guitar at age 17 inspired and influenced by the guitar bands of the 70s including Wishbone ash and Pink Floyd. Andy served his apprenticeship playing the working men's clubs and cabaret circuits of the midlands and the north and subsequently to go on to play in Europe including Spain and Gibraltar. With a previous Pink Floyd tribute band, Andy has also played numerous gigs in India to large festivals and college crowds.
Andy is proud to be involved with this talented group of musicians recreating this timeless music.
Andy: Keys & Vocals.
Andy studied music at university and has been involved in the music industry ever since. A seasoned performer, comfortable on keys or guitar, he has played all over the U.K. as well as internationally, including a full tour of the U.S.
Andy's attention to detail and ability to play by ear make him the perfect candidate to handle all of the keyboard parts in Simply Floyd.
Chris: Drums & Percussion
With over 20 years of experience in live performance, Chris has become a multi-skilled and reliable musician. Regularly performing around the UK with Simply Floyd and other tribute acts such as The Absolute Stone Roses and The Madchester Experience, Chris also works as an Educator, Producer, Audio mix and mastering engineer working across the Recording, Post Production and Game Audio sector. Over his time in the industry Chris has gained a wealth of knowledge and technical know-how along with a strong passion for Pink Floyd. The authentic replication of both the sound and playing style of his idol Nick Mason are at the heart of everything he does within Simply Floyd and he aims to give you the best show possible.
Since taking up the Saxophone some 50 years ago with lessons from Terry Marshall of Marshall amplification, Jo has gone on to play with various bands including The Blues Collective, Hellzaboppin (Jump Jive), The Strayhorns (Swing), Bernie Marsden's Blue Green Review with Tony Ashton and Micky Moody, Gordon Hendrix (Aloha from Hawaii Elvis tribute) and Chris Montez (Golden Years, Antwerp, Belgium) to name but a few. With such an extensive career playing such an eclectic mix of styles, Jo is the perfect candidate to bring the Saxophone parts of Pink Floyd's music to life with a wonderful style and approach like no other.
Some of the things people have said about the band
My sixth Simply Floyd gig and definitely the best. For some of the tracks has David Gilmour been playing instead, you would not have been able to tell. The sell out crowd really got into it and the sing-alongs were deafening. A great gig!
I have seen Pink Floyd, Think Floyd, Aussie Floyd and others but this was the most fun gig of Pink Floyd's music that I have been to. The musicianship was superb, a great atmosphere, just the right amount of banter between fans and the band.
Have seen a number of Pink Floyd tribute bands, some big and some small, some with the lights and special effects and some without. In this case not having all of the special effects really paid dividends. Would happily go and watch again.
So there you have it. if you love the music of Pink Floyd do yourself a favour and come and see Simply Floyd, you will not be disappointed.
